How co-op works

Exactly two players, online only. Steam lists online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. It does not list single-player, split-screen or local co-op. Both people need a working microphone and a network connection.

What I checked

I checked the Steam category list and the Xbox capability line, which says online co-op (2-2). I also read the FAQ sentence that every series game is cross-platform between the platforms that game actually supports.

The rules that do not bend

You cannot drop in a third friend. You cannot sit on one couch and split the television, based on the store categories. You cannot play the campaign alone.

The work is asymmetric. One of you often sees a panel the other must describe. The tips page is the communication method. The puzzle pages are the room methods.

Each player needs a copy

Crossplay lets a Steam copy join a PS5 or Xbox Series copy. It does not make the second copy free. See the Friend Pass page for the 22 October 2026 store gap.
